Aloe vera packs a ton of benefits for skin. Here are some of the top reasons why it just makes sense to incorporate this natural ingredient into your beauty regimen.

You can use aloe vera on your skin in three different ways: applied directly from the plant, mixed into a DIY recipe, or as part of a preformulated beauty product.

Applied Directly

“Aloe straight from the plant is the most effective,” says Erica Marie Gatt, esthetician and founder of EM Skin. You can trim a small piece off the tip of a stalk, then squeeze the goo out directly from the plant and apply as needed.

You can also squeeze out as much as you can, then store it in a mason jar in the fridge or freezer for an extra soothing treat. These methods ensure you're using pure, natural aloe vera without any added ingredients or preservatives.

Mixed Into a DIY Recipe

The world’s your oyster when it comes to DIY skincare recipes with aloe vera. You can squeeze some into a DIY body scrub to soothe while you exfoliate, add a touch of vitamin C to make your own antioxidant serum, or combine a tablespoon of aloe vera gel with a tablespoon of honey for a soothing, acne-busting face mask.

Formulated Beauty Products

Many skincare products contain aloe vera as a key ingredient due to the ingredient’s calming and hydrating properties. It may not even be a “featured” ingredient, but still be included in the mix. One of Gatt’s favorites is the Face Reality Calming Facial Toner which combines rose water with aloe leaf juice to sooth, calm, and nourish.

Another great option is Summer Fridays Super Amino Gel Cleanser, a pH balancing cleanser infused with amino acids, seawater, and aloe. The Epicuren Aloe Vera Calming Gel is made with pre, whole leaf aloe, cucumber tea extract, and green tea extract.

Droge huid: abrikozenpitolie, arganolie, avocado olie, cocosolie, duindoornolie, granaatappelzaadolie, hazelnootolie, macademia olie, olijfolie, sesamolie en teunisbloemolie

Aloe Vera gel is zeer verzachtend, hydraterend en verkoelend voor de huid.

Maakt de huid fris, zacht en glad

Wolvet (watervrije lanoline) is de emulgator in deze bodylotion die ervoor zorgt dat de vetten en het hydrolaat (of water) zich met elkaar verbinden en er zo een lichte, snel intrekkende lotion ontstaat.

Wolvet of Lanoline is het vet dat voorkomt in de wol van schapen.

Lanoline wordt uit wol gewonnen door het te wassen en vervolgens het water te laten verdampen. Daarna wordt het gereinigd.

Belangrijk is om een goede kwaliteit lanoline te gebruiken die vrij is van pesticiden/bestrijdingsmiddelen.

De bodylotion bestaat uit twee componenten: een vetcomponent en een watercomponent.

Uit de douche, afdrogen en dan je lievelingskleding aantrekken? Een belangrijke tussenstap wordt vaak vergeten: het aanbrengen van een vochtinbrengende lotion na het douchen of baden. Als verzorging na het douchen of baden, of als extra portie ontspanning tussendoor: laat je verleiden door de lichte textuur en de milde geur, en geniet van een fris, ontspannen huidgevoel.

TOEPASSING

Smeer je hele lichaam naar wens 's morgens en/of 's avonds in met de Aloë Vera Bodylotion. Ook voor gevoelige of geïrriteerde plekken is deze lotion zeer geschikt als kalmerende verzorging. Vooral na het douchen werkt de Body Balm uiterst verfrissend. De lotion is zuinig in gebruik en trekt snel in.

Etherische olie voor je hydraterende bodylotion

Etherische olie geeft een heerlijke geur en extra effect aan je bodylotion , Voeg maximaal 30 druppels etherische olie toe van 1 tot 3 soorten etherische oliën naar keuze.

Gebruik altijd zuivere, biologische etherische olie.

Droge huid : cederhout, geranium, neroli, sandelhout, lavendel, kamille, patchouli, tea tree, roos.

Oudere huid: salie, cypres, wierook, geranium, ho-blad, lavendel, neroli, patchouli, kamille, roos, sandelhout, ylang ylang.

Vette huid: scharlei, cederhout, bergamot, geranium, jeneverbes, lavendel, citroen, mandarijn, neroli, niaouli, rozemarijn, sandelhout, tea tree, vetiver, kamile, basilicum.

Opwekkend zijn citrusgeuren en pepermunt soorten en rustgevend lavendel, cederhout en vetiver. Je kunt ook kiezen voor een bloemengeur zoals roos, ylang ylang, jasmijn, mimosa et. De mogelijkheden zijn eindeloos.

Bijvoorbeeld 30 druppels ‘Fresh’ compositie in combinatie met neroli hydrolaat voor een verfrissende bodylotion om de dag mee te starten na de ochtendouche.

Other Forms

For topical use, Romanowski suggests using aloe vera directly from a plant to get the most benefits as formulated products may only contain trace amounts. The gel can be applied directly to the skin or mixed into a DIY face mask. If you find the natural sting too irritating for a burn, Dr. Nussbaum recommends opting for a formulated gel instead.

If you're applying aloe vera to soothe dry skin, leave it on like you would a lotion. The only time you should wash if off is if you're using it as a DIY mask.

Similar to when you apply lotion, it's best to apply aloe vera to damp skin because it's able to lock in that moisture for even better hydration-boosting benefits.
