Eucerin pH5 Bodylotion F - Ontdek de Voordelen voor Je Huid

Understanding skin – Skin’s pH

Skin is the ultimate multi-tasker, performing several essential roles for our overall wellbeing.

The most important role it plays is as a protective barrier between our bodies and the outside world, and skin’s pH is one of its key protective mechanisms. The pH of our skin is constantly challenged by external aggressors such as pollution, temperature changes and harsh chemicals. Superior skincare products help to maintain skin’s optimal pH and support and restore its natural defenses. This makes it more resilient, less sensitive and better able to carry out its vital work of protecting us.

Worth A Revisit : Eucerin Sensitive Skin PH5 Wash Lotion For Body And Face

Some things just don’t seem to need reviewing or writing about, but they are probably the items we use the most often and use UP the most often too. In my case, let me introduce you to the Eucerin Sensitive Skin PH5 Wash Lotion, a face and body wash for sensitive skin. I wrote about this way back in 2007 and although the name has changed a little, here it is again nearly 5 years later! A product with lasting power for this fickle minded female! 😀

I don’t have sensitive skin as a rule, but I started using this one a few years back after being introduced to it, and because I saw it on sale at Guardian. Any resolve I have is always weakened by a pharmacy sale 😛 I like to buy the 1000ml bottles when they are on sale, that come free with the smaller bottles of the same wash lotion. I use these everyday anyway, so any saving is always a good thing.

You might be wondering though, why I use this so often, although I love switching body washes? If you look at my shower caddy, its PACKED with hair, body and face washes but I always come back to this one.

The primary reason is because this is the only body wash I can use that I know will not tear my hands apart. I have sensitive skin on my hands. Weird right? Nowhere else, just my hands. So any body wash that is too chock a block with chemicals or are too drying will dry out the skin on my hands. So I always go back to the Eucerin PH5 Wash Lotion.

It is your regular body wash and honestly doesn’t smell all that wonderful. Certainly not as wonderful as the perfumed body washes out there. But it works a treat for me, does not dry out my skin, helps heal my hands when I have gone on an experimental bout and if I’m really really lazy, doubles up as face wash!

How does skin’s pH differ across the body?

Skin structure, and its pH, differs slightly according to where it is on our bodies. While most skin on the face and body has a pH of between 4.7 and 5.75, there are some notable differences:

When skin has a lower acidity, it is susceptible to infection.

Hands need special care as their protective acid mantle is under stress.

Hands
Hands work hard and are constantly exposed to external forces. As a result, the pH of skin on the hands is stressed. Its protective acid mantle may be weakened and skin is more susceptible to drying out and irritation.

Armpits
Armpit skin can go for long periods without light or air, conditions that help bacteria to grow. Armpit skin is also frequently subjected to the harsh chemicals in some anti-perspirants and/or hair removal products. For these reasons, it has a pH closer to 6.5. This significant reduction in acidity makes it further susceptible to bacteria. It is the breakdown of this bacteria that can lead to unpleasant body odour. Read more in sweating.

The genital area
Like armpit skin, the skin in the genital area has a pH of 6.5. This reduced acidity makes it prone to bacterial infections.
