Michael Jackson’s Drugs History Scrutinized in Court

Jackson was acting 'goofy' and was slow to respond to standard questions before a scheduled cosmetic surgery that was subsequently canceled, the court was told Thursday.

Michael Jackson had a high tolerance for certain drugs and wasn’t always forthcoming with his medical history, a nurse anesthetist who treated the singer testified Thursday.

Witness David Fournier told jurors he had worked with Jackson for a decade until the relationship ended in 2003, when Fournier refused to participate in a medical procedure.

Known as the “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson was a best-selling American singer, songwriter, and dancer. As a child, Jackson became the lead singer of his family’s popular Motown group, the Jackson 5. He went on to a solo career of astonishing worldwide success, delivering No. 1 hits from the albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad. Thriller remains one of the best-selling albums in history. In his later years, Jackson was dogged by allegations of child molestation. The 13-time Grammy Award winner died in 2009 at age 50 of a drug overdose just before launching a comeback tour.

Wacko Jacko

Jackson kreeg in de pers de bijnaam Wacko Jacko vanwege zijn vaak excentrieke gedrag, zowel privé als in het openbaar. Vanaf het midden van de jaren ’80 wordt bekend dat hij een chimpansee genaamd Bubbles in huis houdt en dat hij slaapt in een zuurstoftent. Ook transformeert hij zijn landgoed Neverland tot een heus pretpark, compleet met kermisattracties en een mini-dierentuin.

Ook de vele cosmetische operaties die Jackson onderging, en met name zichtbaar werden na het uitkomen van het album Bad in 1987, baarden opzien. Pas in 1991 gaf hij toe dat hij aan zijn uiterlijk had laten schaven. Zijn plotseling bleek geworden huid, was volgens de zanger het gevolg van een huidziekte.
