“Glycerin, cocoa butter and almond oil work together to moisturize skin and lock in hydration to keep skin soft, supple and comfortable all day or all night long,” Lush writes in the product description. I concur. I apply the muted purple Sleepy Body Lotion to my hands and forearms before bed every night and always wake up with soft, moisturized skin. It also keeps my cuticles happy.
Other noteworthy moisturizing ingredients include oat milk, organic jojoba oil and illipe butter, which nourishes the skin and restores vitality.
When it comes to texture, Sleepy once again has the Goldilocks effect. It’s not too heavy, but not too light. It’s just right. “It’s super silky and doesn’t leave me feeling greasy or make me sweat in the middle of the night like some other lotions do,” said a reviewer. As someone who can wake up sweaty when I use certain ultra-heavy lotions, I agree that Sleepy has never given me this problem.
I've struggled with sleep throughout my life, but this lavender body lotion always helps me drift off to Dreamland.

Expertise Mental health, Personal care, Nutrition, SleepI’ve always joked that sleeping is my favorite hobby. As someone who's struggled to catch some Zs throughout my life, I’ve spent a lot of time researching natural sleep aids. One I’ve always loved is lavender, which has been associated with “improved sleep quality before insomnia or other sleep disorders occurred,” according to a 2022 systematic review.
“Lavender and sleep hygiene together, and sleep hygiene alone to a lesser degree, improved sleep quality for college students with self-reported sleep issues,” concluded a 2015 study.
While I’ve always enjoyed the smell of lavender and have used various lavender products before bed, I’ve never 100% felt that the plant has helped me sleep. That is, until I tried the Sleepy Body Lotion from Lush.
TL,DR: I’m desperate. So when I hear about Lush’s ‘Sleepy’ body lotion, touted as a “miracle cream” that has supposedly helped hoards of insomniacs fall asleep, I decide (somewhat dubiously/doubtfully) to give it a go.
I’m going to test the lotion for a week to get reliable results – and try and keep an open mind. “What, so you’re going to fall asleep just by putting on moisturiser?” my flatmate jokes, but, after reading the ingredients, she concedes: “Oh, lavender? Mate, you’re going to be out for the count tonight.”
In winter, all you want to do is be wrapped up under a duvet, so spending 15 minutes before bed standing in the cold rubbing lotion all over my body is a challenge in itself. I wonder how much of a difference moisturising my legs will have on my sleep pattern, but hey. As I crawl under the duvet moments afterwards, I can already feel my eyes drooping. I debate whether it’s because I had a busy day at work or a hard gym session, but before I come to a conclusion I’m asleep.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am an evangelist when it comes to the importance of sleep.
And by that, I mean, I have a tendency to espouse the many health benefits of getting a solid night’s shut-eye (Ariana Huffington should hire me) and campaign for grown-up nap time—it’s wasted on children, I swear—to just about anyone who will listen (apologies to my editors and exes).
Honestly, the militant advocacy arguably comes from a self-serving place. If I don’t sleep—or sleep poorly—I become a cantankerous mess whose anxiety takes the first elevator to the highest floor while adopting a carbohydrate craving that knows no bounds (not ideal when quarantined next to my fridge).
After exhausting all my usual sleep tricks (the irony), none of which seemed to work—I tried something a little more left of centre: a body lotion that insomniacs on the internet have sworn by for years.
