Alles wat je moet weten over Dr. Graham en Eczeem

Vraag:

In de krant zie ik bijna wekelijks een flinke advertentie staan van wondermiddel “Grahams Natural”. Het zou werken bij eczeem. Is het werkzaam en zitten er ook corticosteroïden in net als in Chinese kruidencrèmes?

Eczeem

Eczeem is een veelvoorkomende aandoening. Ongeveer 5% van de volwassenen in Nederland heeft één van de vormen van eczeem. Eczeem kan vele oorzaken hebben en kan ook op verschillende plaatsen op het lichaam voorkomen als jeukende huidaandoening met roodheid, verdikking van de huid, blaasjes, korstjes, of andere verdikte bultjes van de huid. De aanhoudende jeuk zorgt ervoor dat patiënten zich krabben, waardoor de huid geïrriteerd raakt en ook kan beschadigen.

In de behandelstandaard voor huisartsen ( de NHG-standaard) staan aanbevelingen voor behandeling met (vette) crèmes en als dat niet genoeg is ook crèmes of zalven met corticosteroïden. Is het eczeem daarmee niet onder controle te krijgen, dan wordt de patiënt doorgestuurd naar de dermatoloog die ook uit een heel arsenaal aan behandelingen kan kiezen. Bij veel mensen levert dit uiteindelijk een goed resultaat op, mits de huid regelmatig met voldoende product wordt ingesmeerd.

Wondermiddel uit Australië

Importeur OTC Medical uit Delft timmert behoorlijk aan de weg met Grahams Natural, in advertenties in landelijke dagbladen. Het is een Australisch merk dat in veel landen wordt verkocht, ook in Nederland. Volgens de advertenties betreft het hier een wondermiddel, waardoor eczeem als sneeuw voor de zon verdwijnt.

Wat Geoff Graham goed heeft gezien, is dat het bij eczeem heel belangrijk is de huid goed te verzorgen, bij voorkeur met wat vettige producten. Dit zal de irritante jeuk ook wat stillen. In het assortiment van Graham zijn er verschillende soorten crèmes en ook veel oliën. Bij veel producten wordt aanbevolen deze meermalen per dag te gebruiken. Dit regelmatig invetten komt overeen met de eerdergenoemde aanbevelingen van huisartsen, van de crèmes die zij aanbevelen.

Amy Collins, CRNP

Amy Collins is a 2006 graduate from Shelton State Community College, where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. After graduating, Amy worked at Druid City Hospital in the Stroke Unit, the Medical-Surgical Unit, and then in primary care for six years. Amy came to West Alabama Spine and Pain Specialists in 2017, where her interest in earning her Master of Science in Nursing began. We are pleased to announce that Amy will collaborate with Dr. Graham in providing care to our patients since graduating from Samford University in December 2021 with her Master of Science in Nursing. Amy is committed to providing treatment that will enhance and enrich the lives of patients living with chronic pain.

Amy is a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She enjoys singing, playing the piano, and cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide! She and her husband Chris love watching their two daughters, Anna and Lia, play sports and perform in the school theater. They are also very involved in their church and serve in the children and music ministries.
